Production Weaver

Crossnore Weavers & Gallery is currently seeking part-time weavers to create hand-woven placemats at its facility on the Avery Campus of Crossnore School & Children's Home. The ability to weave on a four-harness loom is preferred. Weavers are required to follow all recommended directions for dressing looms, winding warps, weaving items, and removing product from looms. Weavers must be able to follow directions, assist and support co-workers, meet and speak with customers and visitors, and be dependable and punctual. Weaving placemats is physically demanding; this position requires the ability to perform normal physical functions including but not limited to lifting, bending, and stretching.
For over 100 years, the art of hand-weaving has been an integral part of what is now Crossnore School & Children's Home. Mary Martin Sloop, Crossnore School founder, established a program to revive and preserve hand-weaving that would provide jobs and income for mountain families as well as create beautiful, signature goods to sell nationwide for the support of her mission to educate and care for children.
Today, as then, Crossnore Weavers and Gallery supports Crossnore School & Children's Home in its mission to grow healthy futures for children and families by providing a Christian sanctuary of hope and healing.
