Description of Work
Position provides primary dental care and treatment at Avery/Mitchell Correctional Institution plus surrounding correctional facilities. Position takes and reviews medical and dental history and performs examination of hard and soft tissues. They will also initiate appropriate dental care and treatment of inmate patients. Position will also order appropriate diagnostic studies, arranges for follow-up and consultation and supervises the dental staff and dental interns in their practice of dentistry in the areas of oral surgery, endodontics, prosthetics, and periodontics. Also provides proper and accurate documentation of procedures in the dental and medical charts,and monitors all aspects of infection control. This includes barrier techniques for staff, equipment and proper sterilization of instruments. Dentist also ensures inmates are provided oral hygiene instructions and informs inmates of diagnostic and treatment concerns. Position responsible for documentation of weekly spore testing and maintenance procedures of equipment, assessment of inmate and staff needs to determine the need for new programs or program adjustments; supervises the daily tasks of the dental assistant and delegates duties for the effective operation of the dental office; evaluates operations and procedures, analyzes deficiencies and suggests solutions. Will also evaluate operations and procedures, analyzes deficiencies and suggests solutions. Provides written responses to inmate grievances and written responses to DPS legal when necessary. Maintains professional demeanor and ensures positive communication with dental, medical and custody staff for effective operation of the dental office.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
Thorough knowledge of dental practices and developments in the field of dentistry.
Considerable knowledge of departmental polices, rules, and regulations pertaining to dental health services.
Considerable knowledge of dental health problems in the community or health facilities to which assigned. Ability to supervise assigned personnel.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, departmental personnel from other professional disciplines within the institution, clinic, or community setting.
Ability to perform dental work of a professional and independent nature.
Ability to supervise and train dental assistants, hygienists, and residents.
Ability to prepare and deliver lectures on dental health education to professional and community groups.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of North Carolina.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
